British Milers Club confirm date for Grand Prix/Challenger Event at Bury

The BMC have confirmed their intention to hold one of their prestigious Grand Prix/Challenger meetings at Bury on Saturday 8th August next year (2026). The meeting will form part of the World Athletics Continental Tour and will see elite middle distance runners from around the world descend upon Bury’s renowned super-fast track at Market Street for the evening meeting.

The club first hosted a Grand Prix event for the BMC back in August 2024 and that saw over 80 overseas athletes competing and two BMC best allcomers’ performances; the USA’s Cooper Teare scorching around the 1500m in 3.33.96 and Canadian Kevin Robertson’s amazing 8.24.37 in the 3000m steeplechase. The Grand Prix event hosted by Bury this year was in the May and that saw nearly 50% of competitors set new personal best performances. The meeting will once again by livestreamed by Vinco giving those people who can’t get to Bury in person the opportunity to watch the races online.

Club chair Mark Granby said ” I am delighted that our partnership with the BMC is going from strength to strength and that people in the vicinity of Bury will be once again given the opportunity to watch a world class athletics event. Bury’s legendarily friendly volunteers and our fast track will make it a great experience for spectators, but more importantly, for athletes.”

Team captain and trustee Byron Edwards said ” Once again the BMC are displaying their faith in the team at Bury that we can host meetings of the highest standard. This is no small part due to our team of volunteers who make such a difference on the day of the meetings. It will act as a great pre-curser for our Track Mile event just two weeks later that will also incorporate BMC races”
