Victory at the final YDL Track and Field fixture at Litherland on Saturday secured not only promotion to the second division, but promotion as champions for the young Bury Team. As the team secured promotion last year, Team Manager Nick Rimmer was hoping for consolidation but Bury’s brilliant young athletes surpassed his expectations by winning all four of the league fixtures to run out as convincing champions over second placed Menai.

Once again the team spirit was exceptional with athletes offering to compete in unfamiliar events to maximise points. For the boys there were victories for Ben Forrest (U15 A 800m), Oli Donnelly (U15 B 800m), Dylan McKenzie (U15 B 80mH), Brandon Wilson (U15 hammer), Jerel Livingston (U13 100m, 200m and long jump), Jay Cook (U13 B 75mH and javelin) and Elliot Savage (U13 B long jump). There was also a victory for the Under 13 boys squad of Elliott Savage, Evan Savage, Jack Andrew and Jerel Livingston in the 4 x 100m relay. Valuable points were also secured by Nathan Shepherd, Stefan Kalambouka, Francis Woodcock, Patrick Clarke, Dan Matthews and Gil Vaughan.

For the girls there were individual victories for Grace Goodsell (U15 A 100m, 200m and long jump), Charlotte Larkin (U15 B 100m and 200m), Charlotte Speakman-Farnworth (U15 B 800m and 75mH), Charlotte Smith (U15 B 1500m), Amy Garroch (U15 B discus), Daisy Worthington (U15 B long jump), Hattie Vaughan (U15 pole vault), Freya Potts (U13 B 1200m) and Ella Hall (U13 shot). The Under 15 girls dominated the relays with Amy Garroch, Katherine Townsend, Charlotte Larkin and Grace Goodsell winning the 4 x 100m and Hattie Vaughan, Daisy Worthington, Heledd Rimmer and Katherine Townsend winning the 4 x 300m. The other team members who contributed to the victory included Catherine Russell, Abigail Howard, Lucy Pixton, Erin Kenyon and Lucy Chandler.

Once again the team was supported by parents who volunteered to help officiate, again securing important team points.

Earlier on in the week Bury hosted the third and final of the Mini League fixtures for young athletes.
