A dozen young athletes from Bury made the journey to Ashton to compete in the East Cheshire Harriers’ Open Cross Country Races. They were treated to cold but dry weather making the course a little less harsh.

For the under 9 girls Lola Potts ran well to take 11th place (6.26) in a compact field. Megan Howarth came 19th (6.52) followed by Samantha Jones in 24th (7.20), Khadeeja Siddique 26th (7.30) and Isabel Lawson 27th (7.34).

For the boys Finlay Collins produced a great performance to take 5th place (5.33), just holding off Kieran Chadwick in 6th (5.35). Just a little further down the field and recording the same time in their sprint finish came brothers Sam and Joe Gold in 11th and 12th respectively.

It was excellent to see so many young athletes supporting the East Cheshire event and thanks go to their coaches and parents for supporting them in the competition.
