The Ribble Valley 10k which took place on Sunday 28th December doubled as the North of England Championships over the distance. The relatively flat, fast course always attracts a quality field and this year proved to be no different. However, this year saw a Bury AC member battling it out at the front of the field as 19 year old Bryn Lawrence produced the run of his life. In his debut over the distance he outshone expectations by returning a club record time of 30.03 to claim 9th fastest of the day. Moreover, his performance also secured him 2nd place in the U20 category of the Northern Championships and moves up to 5th fastest in the UK this year in the age category, a tremendous way to bring his season to a close. Team mate Matthew Collister, running in the V35 age category completed the course in 39.31.

The week before, at the Manchester Indoor meeting at Sport City, there were some personal best performances for Bury athletes. Under 15 Matilda Nott set new best marks in the 60m and 300m, placing 2nd over the shorter distance with 8.13 and then winning over the longer distance in 41.47. A time that moves her into the top 35 in the UK for her age group. Solomon Evans was the winner of the U15 boys pole vault with a new PB of 2.30. Combined event specialist Oliver Cooper won the under 17s shot with a best put of 11.87.

Several club members competed at Parkrun events over the Christmas period. Last weekend at Heaton Park saw a win for Matthew Lowe in 15.51, with Sarah Flett 3rd lady in 21.03. The other Bury finishers included Rob Fowler (17.19), Paul Marshall (19.06), Matt Finch (19.27) and Rob Butterworth (21.03). The Christmas Day event saw top thirty finishes from Martin Clark (17.20 for 4th), Robert Weston (17.35 for 6th), Paul Marshall (18.03 for 11th), Conor Wilkinson (18.32 for 13th) and Anthony Hallahan (19.40 for 28th).
