The club received news from the Charity Commission on Friday 29th January that they had been successful in their application to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. Our new Charity Number is 1193322. This is fantastic news for the club and the new structure will streamline governance arrangements for the club to allow us to become more effective in securing funding to meet the objects of the club as a charity.
The club will have a new constitution as a charity and its object is to:
To promote community participation in healthy recreation in Bury and the surrounding area by providing facilities to participate in athletics. For these purposes:
“facilities” is defined as land, buildings, equipment, access to coaching and organising sporting activities.
“athletics” is defined as the England Athletics recognised disciplines of track and field, road running, cross country, trail running, fell running, ultra-distance running and race walking.
The trustees of the charity are:
Mark Granby, Roger Morley, Helen Vaughan, John Conroy, Byron Edwards and Emma Griffiths.
It is unfortunate the charity has received its registration at a time of national lockdown where we are being severely tested in achieving our object, but the restrictions gives the trustees time to plan the effective transition from being an unincorporated club to fully operational charity. This also means that the club will surrender its registration as a community amateur sports club (CASC). We will continue to be affiliated to England Athletics and Northern Athletics and our members will continue to draw on the benefits of these affiliations.
