Saturday 4th February some excellent performances from Bury youngsters in the Greater Manchester Schools Cross Country Championships held on a very challenging course at Heaton Park. Francis Woodcock took the county title in the junior boys race in commanding style, followed in 3rd place by Brandon Quinton with Oliver Donnelly in 34rd. The Bury team took the bronze medal.

In the intermediate boys race Oliver Makinson once again held off Marcus Dey finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. George Yates (31st) and Stefan Kalambouka (34th ) were the other Bury AC competitors in the race. In the minor boys Elliot and Evan Savage took 6th and 7th respectively, clearly holding things in reserve for their indoor exploits the following day.

Sophie Whittaker finished 3rd in the senior girls race, making the county team yet again and leading the Bury contingent to the silver medal. In the intermediate girls race Heledd Rimmer ran well to take 20th, just ahead of Ellie Carter (26th ) and Lucy Alcock (30th).

In the junior girls race Charlotte Speakman-Farnworth (21st), Daisy Worthington (24th) and Erin Kenyon (35th) were the first three Bury finishers, again with there minds on the indoor championships the following day. Lucy Pixton (52nd) and Charlotte Smith (67th) were the other Bury AC finishers. For the minor girls there was close packing from the Bury youngsters with Grace Gibson (23rd), Freya Potts (26th), Abigail Howard (31st) and Scarlet Harrison (32nd) all finishing within 15 seconds on each other. Erin Garroch  was the next Bury finisher in 52nd place in the large field.
