Friday 4th March saw the Red Rose Cross Country League Presentation Evening, hosted at Horwich RMI. Bury AC members celebrated the club’s best ever showing in the league with trophies being awarded in every age category. There was even an additional celebration as everyone sang happy birthday to Bury’s Caitlin Cole who has recently turned 21.
In the under 11s, Gilbert Vaughan took 7th place for the boys.
For the under 13s, Francis Woodcock was the league champion for the boys and Daisy Worthington was 3rd overall for the girls, leading the Bury team to the team title.
In the under 15s, Marcus Dey took the league title ahead of 2nd placed club-mate Oliver Makinson. Ben Forrest took 4th spot in his first year in the age group. Unsurprisingly the boys were clear winners of the team title.
The under 17s also took away some silverware. Patrick Watson took 4th place in the league, one place ahead of Sam Brooks with Bury winning the team title. Sophie Whittaker was crowned as league champion.
The under 20s men and women both took the team titles. For the men, Benn Heywood was league runner up and Robert Granby took 5th place. Christie Cook took 3rd place in the women’s league, just ahead of 4th placed Lauren Booth with Lizzie Howard in 6th.
For the seniors Caitlin Cole took an excellent runners up position in the league, with Laura Evans in 4th and Donna Cartwright 6th. The women took the team prize. Donna took 3rd in the vets category with Katie Geelan 5th. Tony Cullen took 3rd place in the men’s veterans category.
