Team Manager Nick Rimmer was delighted with the commitment of the athletes who competed in the third of the four YDL Lower fixtures on 19th June. Hosted by Bury at the Market Street Track in damp conditions, the Bury team extended their lead over Menai to 4 points (21 v 17) and are certain for promotion to the 2nd division.
For the under 15 boys there were individual victories for Ben Forrest, Stefan Kalambouka, Dan Matthews, Brandon Wilson and Patrick Clarke. Ben won the A 800m in an excellent new pb of 2.10.4. Stefan took first place in the B 300m (42.8) and Dan won the B events in the discus (15.10) and shot (6.07). Brandon won the A hammer (17.62) whilst Patrick took the A high jump (1.50). The boys teams also won both relays with Patrick, Brandon and Stefan teaming up with Nathan Shepherd to win the 4 x 100m (53.7) whilst Ben and Stefan were joined by Francis Woodcock and Jack Knowles to run out as winners of the 4 x 300m (3.04.8).
The under 15 girls counted 8 athletes with individual victories. Grace Goodsell made it a brilliant trio in winning the A 100m (13.1) A 200m (26.7) and A long jump (4.77) events. Charlotte Larkin kept the maximum points coming in by winning both B 100m and 200m events (13.5 and 27.3). Daisy Worthington won the A 800m (2.26.7) whilst Charlotte Speakman-Farnworth won the B 800m (2.34.3) and B 75m hurdles (13.5). Katherine Townsend won the B discus (14.74) and Hannah Holland took first in the B high jump (1.50). Hattie Vaughan won the A pole vault in 2.80, further justifying her selection for the English Schools. Hattie, Katherine, Charlotte Larkin and Grace teamed up to win the 4 x100m relay (54.6). There was also a victory in the 4 x 300m with Hattie, Daisy, Katherine and Chalotte Speakman-Farnworth well clear of next opponents Menai (3.12.6).
The under 13 boys also bagged a number of individual victories. Jerel Livingston emulated Grace by winning the A 100m (13.4), 200m (26.8) and long jump (4.64). Gil Vaughan won the B 100m (14.9) and B 1500m (5.31.4) and Evan Savage took the B 200m (30.5). Jack Andrew won the A 75m hurdles (14.9) and Jay Cook won the B race (16.8) before winning the B high jump (1.20). Elliott Savage won the B long jump (4.08). The 4 x 100m relay team of Elliot, Evan, Jerel and Jack won their race in a nippy 58.7.
For the under 13 girls the sole individual winner was Freya Potts who won the B 1200m in 4.23.0. The 4 x 100m relay team of Catherine Russell, Ella Hall, Lucy Pixton and Erin Kenyon took 3rd place in 60.1. Lucy Chandler had a busy day for the team scoring vital points in the 70m hurdles, shot and high jump.
The day before Hashim Shah and Grace Goodsell both competed for Greater Manchester in the Mason Trophy Inter Counties for schools down in Birmingham. Hashim ran in the Senior boys 100m setting a new best of 11.54 in the heats. Grace just missed out on a medal, taking 4th place in the long jump with an amazing leap of 5.11.
