Callum Gaunt was the first Bury AC finisher in Sunday’s Run For All Bury 10k. He went with the early pace, as the field spread out behind eventual winner Benjamin Kirkman from Rossendale, and secured third place in 35.27. Under 20 Taylor Warburton placed fifth after a strong start. His time of 37.25 was nearly 4 minutes faster than his time in the race the previous year giving a clear indication of the improvements he is making. Giles Bennett was the next finisher in 55th with 42.54, placing him sixth in the M50 category. Personal trainer Irfan Qureshi covered the course in 52.03. It was also excellent to see coach Paula Gears at the event, with assistant Jackie Davies, as they ran the course supporting members of their development group.

The previous day was a day of Parkrun personal bests for Bury athletes. The first five places at the Heaton Park event were all filled with Bury AC runners. Under 20 Bryn Lawrence was first across the finish line with 15.48, his first time under 16 minutes. Running on his shoulder was Martin Clark who stopped the clock at the same time. James Brown was third also breaking the sub 16 barrier with 15.54. Paul Marshall set a new PB of 17.33 in fourth with Adam Worsley in fifth with a new best of 17.47. The strength in depth of the Bury squad sets the team in a good position for the forthcoming road relay season. Lizzie Cheshire, ordinarily a sprinter, set a new PB of 21.23 as third woman finisher. At the Alexandra Parkrun in Moss Side, 12 year old Ethan Statham smashed the 17 minute barrier for the first time with 16.45. He and his coach Geoff Little can now eagerly anticipate a good season over the cross country and the roads.

The night before, fifteen year old Lucy Dent competed in the Active Tameside 5k. Her time of 19.11 was a new PB for the distance and secured her second place in the junior women category.
