The entries may now be closed for the Bury AC Track Miles meeting on Sunday 24th August, but spectators are more than welcome to watch what will undoubtedly be a gripping afternoon of middle distance races.
Bury AC are hosting the event in conjunction with the British Miles Club and as well as a programme of races over 800m, the mile and 5000m, there will also be a world record attempt at the M35 4 x 800m relay incorporated into the programme.
The competition will get under way at 2.00pm with a series of ten elite BMC 800m races. These will be followed immediately by the 4 x 800m relay and we hope that spectators will be especially vocal in their support for the athletes in this race. The current world record is held by the Spanish quartet of Roberto Sotomayor, Octavio Perez, Juan Pous and Juan Martinez set on 14th May 2016. It stands at 7:51.47. The British challengers are Harry Wakefield, David Scott, Matthew Revier and David Proctor who are the top 4 UK ranked M35 athletes currently. The race and prizes will be sponsored by Skills for Security and Flycarb.
The Bury AC open mile events follows next with over 70 local athletes entered to test themselves over this classic distance in a series of six races. These will be followed immediately by the three BMC mile races where we hope we will be treated to a sub 4 minute mile performance.
The programme will end with two BMC 5000m races and these promise to be excellent competitions.
We will have a trackside bar set up together with snacks and refreshments from our legendarily friendly cafe team. With it being the Bank Holiday the following day there is no need to dash off to be ready for work. The weather forecast is looking very promising, so why not spend your Sunday afternoon supporting the runners.
There is car parking provision on the site, supervised by our superb marshals and it the cost is a very reasonable £4 per vehicle.
