A small contingent of Bury AC runners travelled to Donnington Park in the East Midlands to compete in the English National Cross Country Championships on Saturday. The under 15 boys team was the only full Bury team in the event. Marcus Dey was first home in 21st place (17.17), the best result for a Bury athlete of the day. Next finisher was Oliver Makinson, producing his trademark strong run to take an excellent 36th position (17.36). Ben Forrest was the third Bury scorer taking 110th place (18.26) with Alex Bennett brining the team home with his 345th place (22.14). The team finished 17th overall.
Francis Woodcock was the sole Bury athlete in the under 13 boys and he ran very strongly to take an excellent 26th place (13.32) behind the highly talented Tommy Dawson from Leeds. Similarly Charlotte Farnworth was the only Bury competitor in the under 13 girls race, finishing in 328th place (17.11).
Ellie Carter and Heledd Rimmer competed in the under 15 girls race. Ellie was first home in 250th place (20.31) with Heledd just 50 seconds behind her in 301st.
Bury fielded just one athlete in each of the under 17 women, under 17 men, under 20 women and senior mens races. Sophie Whittaker took an excellent 63rd in the u17 womens race (22.32) and Iestyn Rimmer came 237th (27.19) in the u17 mens event. Lauren Booth ran well to take 91st in the u20 womens race (27.45). Finally Giles Bennett competed in the senior mens race which was won by Jonathan Hay from Aldershot and Farnham. Giles ran strongly over the 12km course to take 1222nd place (63.35).
