English National Cross Country Championship Performances

A small contingent of Bury AC runners travelled to Donnington Park in the East Midlands to compete in the English National Cross Country Championships on Saturday. The under 15 boys team was the only full Bury team in the event. Marcus Dey was first home in 21^st place (17.17), the best result for a Bury athlete of the day. Next finisher was Oliver Makinson, producing his trademark strong run to take an excellent 36^th position (17.36). Ben Forrest was the third Bury scorer taking 110^th place (18.26) with Alex Bennett brining the team home with his 345^th place (22.14). The team finished 17^th overall.

Francis Woodcock was the sole Bury athlete in the under 13 boys and he ran very strongly to take an excellent 26^th place (13.32) behind the highly talented Tommy Dawson from Leeds. Similarly Charlotte Farnworth was the only Bury competitor in the under 13 girls race, finishing in 328^th place (17.11).

Ellie Carter and Heledd Rimmer competed in the under 15 girls race. Ellie was first home in 250^th place (20.31) with Heledd just 50 seconds behind her in 301^st.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bury fielded just one athlete in each of the under 17 women, under 17 men, under 20 women and senior mens races. Sophie Whittaker took an excellent 63^rd in the u17 womens race (22.32) and Iestyn Rimmer came 237^th (27.19) in the u17 mens event. Lauren Booth ran well to take 91^st in the u20 womens race (27.45). Finally Giles Bennett competed in the senior mens race which was won by Jonathan Hay from Aldershot and Farnham. Giles ran strongly over the 12km course to take 1222^nd place (63.35).
