Leigh Leopards Stadium at the Sports Village was the venue for the England Athletics North West Volunteers Awards on the evening of Saturday 11th October. Three members of Bury AC were among the shortlisted nominees for awards. Coach Frankie Simpson was delighted to win the award for Newcomer to Volunteering with the outcome attracting a large amount of praise from members. What an impression she has made since she started with the club and she has just been fully accredited as a coach.
Paula Gears was next to receive an award, as it was announced that she was runner up in the Club Volunteer of Year category with this announcement generating a large amount of celebratory comments from her colleagues at Bury. As well as coaching, Paula volunteers a massive amount of time in the club’s tuck shop, especially at events were her friendly character has drawn positive comments from visitors from around the country.
Finally, Helen Vaughan was announced as a runner up in the highly competitive Coach of the Year category to equal acclaim from everyone at the club. Helen has energised the Under 10s section to create a fantastic foundation for young athletes. She has got the brilliant Mini Leagues up and running as well as investing a huge amount of time as club secretary, an official and as a welfare officer.
To have three volunteers shortlisted for awards is a great result for the club and it illustrates how blessed the club is with its fantastic volunteers..
