It is with great sadness that Bury AC announces the death of life member and former club chair Terry Ratcliffe.

Terry passed away peacefully last Saturday (29th October) with close family around him. It is hard to overstate the impact that Terry had on the club over his many years of membership as initially athlete but more latterly as a club official. His leadership saw the club first move onto the Market Street site with the initial laying of the new 400m cinder track and then in the late 1980s the laying of the synthetic track which, ironically, has just been resurfaced for the first time. Terry did much work to raise the status of the club and athletics in the region and was one of the initial founders of the Red Rose Cross Country League.

The club had already named a trophy in his honour, the JT Ratcliffe Challenge award for the club’s most competitive member. The trophy will be now known as the JT Ratcliffe Memorial award.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Terry’s family and friends at this sad time.
