The club had three competitors at the North Of England Indoor Championships for Under 17s, Under 20s and Senior athletes that took place in Sheffield over the weekend. The star performance came from Caitlyn Johnston in the senior women’s 1500m where she prevailed in a battle on the last lap to secure a silver medal in 4.46.11. A great run from Caitlyn demonstrating her tactical intelligence and her continued improvement. Oliver Cooper was just outside the medals in the under 17s shot. The combined event specialist placed fifth with 12.45. In the senior 400m Peter Gardner just missed out on qualifying for the final. He took third place in his heat in a nippy 51.39.
The club also saw some great performances in Saturday’s Manchester Area Cross Country League at Tatton Park. In the under 11s race Findley McCallum ran well to take 53rd boy and Maya Akram 48th girl. The under 13s race saw Ethan Statham get the new year off to a great start as he won with 10 seconds advantage. Heidi Wilkinson also had a great run, placing eighth girl. The senior men were out in numbers and did well to take sixth team place overall. Bryn Lawrence continued his superb form placing 6th. Ben Coop was delighted with his 13th place just ahead of Martin Clark in 18th. James Brown ran strongly to take 28th. Seb Poma placed 88th, Patrick Babb 128th, Paul Johnston 145th, Ed Hunt 153rd and Anthony Hallahan 194th in the high quality field of over 450 athletes.
