Following the Prime Minister’s statement in the evening of Monday 4th January, the Market Street track and facilities has closed and will remain closed for the duration of this new national lockdown. We will obviously monitor guidance as it emerges from the Government and England Athletics and review the way the club operates. Until the guidance changes we must urge members not to attempt to use the facilities. The revised and current EA guidance can be accessed on the link below:

The new national lockdown restrictions do still allow people to exercise outdoors, although the guidance recommends that this should be limited to once a day. Members are therefore still able to train outdoors in places like public parks and you may exercise with one other person from another household. Virtual competitions are allowed, but members must adhere to the guidance when taking part.

We recognise that this represent a significant blow to our competitive members and particularly those who specialise in the more technical events. We will have to wait and monitor the impact of the lockdown and that of the roll out of the vaccination programme. It is our hope that the two measures will ultimately herald a return to conditions where Bury AC members can both train and compete.

Finally, it is important that we collectively offer our thanks to the club’s coaches and volunteers who have worked incredibly hard in difficult circumstances to allow the club to operate, albeit on a very limited scale, up until this point. They will be particularly disappointed that they can’t do what they love doing; supporting athletes to achieve their potential.
