Sunday 29th January saw Bury athletes competing at indoor meetings at Sheffield and Sportcity.
Grace Goodsell, Daisy Worthington, Thomas Halford and Amy and Erin Garroch made the trip to Sheffield to compete in the festival events. In the under 15 girls 60m sprints Grace Goodsell took 2nd in her race in a season’s best of 8.01, with Amy Garroch taking 5th in her event in a new pb of 8.72. Erin Garroch, running in the under 13s event, took 7th place in her race in a best time of 9.70. Thomas Halford, in the under 13 boy’s race, finished 3rd in a new best of 9.35.
Erin took the track again, competing in the 800m and ran well to take 10th place, breaking the 3 minute barrier with a new best of 2.58.3.
Grace took 3rd place in the long jump with a best leap of 5.26, consolidating her position as one of the country’s best young long jumpers. Daisy took 5th place with a best effort of 4.70, with Amy 15th with a jump of 4.40 that extended her previous best by over a metre!
Daisy and Amy also competed in the shot putt, with Daisy taking 4th with a putt of 9.11 and Amy finishing 15th with a new best of 6.51.
The athletes competing at Sportcity were also rewarded with a string of new personal best performances. Star of the day was Hattie Vaughan who improved her pole vault best to a massive 3.25m to take 3rd place in the quality competition and move her up to 7th in the UK rankings.
In the under 20 men 60m Hashim Shah took 4th place in his heat with a new best of 7.54, a fine reward for his hard work at training. In the under 17 women’s sprint there were new bests for Hattie (8.44), Charlotte Larkin (8.29), Ella Tyrell (9.00) and Ellie Carter (9.14). Jerel Livingston ran in the under 15 boys sprint and took 4th place in a new best of 8.14.
Bury had 7 competitors in the 200m races. In the under 17 women’s events Teegan Brady (28.65), Charlotte (27.98) and Jenna Allen-Cartwright ( 28.69) all produced season’s bests. Ellie (30.95) and Ella (30.98) set new personal bests in their races. New club member Daniel Saunders ran a personal best as an under 17 (26.68) and Jerel Livingston set a new best of 26.12 in the under 15s.
