Following the cancellation of the Ribble Valley 10k due to the Boxing Day floods a small number of Bury athletes sought out competition in events between Christmas and the New Year.
Three Bury runners competed in the Adlington Winter Warmer on 27th December. First local home in seventh place was Tony Cullen (37.52) taking the scalp of brother David for the only time this year. David finished just one place behind Tony in 38.25. Bury’s final finisher in a field of over 230 athletes was Benn Heywood who finished in 14th place with a time of 40.03.
Donna Cartwright ran out as winner in the Bowstones Fell Race in Higher Poynton on New Year’s Eve. Despite the heavy conditions Donna ran strongly over the tough 11k course to take the ladies title.
