Lots happening at the club at the minute, so please take 5 minutes to read and digest.
AGM The club AGM is being held this Thursday, 27th September in the Club House at 8pm immediately after training. Please make the effort to attend so you can understand more about what is happening at the club and have a say on how it is run.
Cross country. If you want to compete in this year’s Red Rose, entry for the series is £6. Please leave your money in and envelope with your name on in the box in the clubhouse before Thursday next week (4th October). The club will then manage the entries. You can still enter after this date but you need to do it yourself via the Sportsoft website and the cost rises to £10. There are no entries on the day. The first fixture is at Leigh on 13th October. More details here.
Geoff Little is offering Saturday cross country training again, starting this Saturday at 9:30 in Heaton Park. Meeting point is the top of the field to the left of Angina Hill as you come up it, not far from the Stables cafe.
Grand Prix. The final table will be published shortly. If you have run (or are running) a Half Marathon between 1st Oct 2017 and 30th Sept 2018 and want the result to be included, please email me on email@example.com including a link to your result by 1st October. Details of the 2018/19 competition will be announced later in the year once race fixtures are available; it will as usual include Red Rose and a half marathon as two of the fixtures.
Road Relay. The men’s team have delivered great results at the road relays this month: 2nd place in Greater Manchester at Delamere a couple of weeks ago (Ben, Ollie, Marcus and Dave), and then qualifying for the Nationals at yesterdays’ Northerns. Its the first time in many years that Bury have qualified and we’re looking to field a strong team on 6th October in Birmingham. Congratulations to the team: Ben, Dave, Josh, Patrick, Luke and Jim. Great result. It was also brilliant to get such a strong overall turnout among seniors: 3 mens’ teams and 2 ladies’ teams competed.
Fixtures. Key fixtures for Seniors are now shown on a page on the website that is updated regularly. This can be found in the “Competitions” drop down menu on the front page of the club website. A shortcut is here. Please use this for reference.
Ribble Valley 10k. This fast 10k held on Sunday 30th December incorporates the North of England 10k Championships. There are also team (including vet team) awards – the first 3 finishers for a club count. This is a great PB course and the big boys come out to play – last year, runners included Jonny Brownlee and Laura Weightman. It would be great to have a decent Bury contingent on show, and to compete for a team prize. You can enter here.
Fundraising. The club is exploring a number of fundraising initiatives to further improve the facilities at the track. This includes seeing a grant to plant hedging around the perimeter to improve security. The award of the grant is contingent upon the club demonstrating commitment from members to help improve facilities, so you may be asked to pledge 4 hours of your time to help. Please show willing to get involved.
Christmas Party & Presentation Evening. These are being combined into a single event, which will be held on Saturday 15th December at the Masonic Hall on Parsons Lane in the centre of Bury. Brianne and Alison are organising festivities. Please hold the date.
London Marathon. Allocation of club places will be announced on 5th November. We expect to get one place again. As last year, we will hold a ballot to allocate the place, shortly after entries open. To enter the club ballot, you need to have entered and been rejected from the main ballot when results are announced in early October – please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you wish to be considered. Members who have not previously won the club place will be prioritised. Taking up the club place may be contingent on agreeing to fundraise for the club, specifically to help fund outdoor exercise equipment suitable for our young athletes to help develop their upper body strength and movement skills.
