GB international Jessica Judd gave a master class in front running when she ran as a guest in the second Red Rose Cross Country League fixture at Blackburn’s Witton Park. However, hot on her heels in 4th place came Bury’s Sophie Whittaker, celebrating her recent 18th birthday with a win as the first u20 runner and leading the women’s team to victory. Katie Geelan (12th) was the next Bury finisher, holding off Donna Cartwright (13th) who is clearly finding her form after injury. Christie Cook (17th) was Bury’s other top 20 finisher and with Lauren Booth and Sophie won the u20 team race.

In the men’s race Ben Coop took 10th place in a quality field and was supported by Dave Cullen (25th), Luke Harreld (33rd), Byron Edwards (68th), Giles Bennett (81st) and Matt Grice (93rd) in bringing the team home in 5th place.

There were team victories for the u17 men with Marcus Dey (2nd), Oliver Makinson (3rd) and Alex Bennett (12th) and the u15 girls with Daisy Worthington (3rd), Charlotte Speakman-Farnworth (4th) and Ellie Carter (16th).

The u15 boys took 3rd with a strong run from Brandon Quinton (5th), supported by Stefan Kalambouka (13th) and Oliver Donnelly (17th). This was matched by the u13 boys with Elliot Savage (5th). Evan Savage (10th) and Gilbert Vaughan (22nd).

Noah Carter produced another excellent run to take 3rd in the u11 boy’s race and leading the team to 4th place supported by Oliver Horford (14th) and Finley Collins (24th). The u11 girls also took 4th with good runs from Millie Yates (11th), Katie Rayner (10th) and Rosa Murphy (14th).

The u13 girls took 5th place with Freya Potts (8th), Erin Kenyon (22nd) and Lucy Pixton (29th). Sadly the u17 girls did not have a third counter to support Lucy Alcock (7th) and Gemma Allen-Cartwright (13th).
