Rob Jones, the managing director at Stagecoach, dropped in at a club session at the end of September. Stagecoach, via their charitable foundation, the Stagecoach Greater Manchester Fund, had kindly donated £1000 to Bury AC which has been used to purchase throwing implements and support coach development through accredited training. Rob got fully engaged on his visit, observing throwing sessions and sessions on the track. Coach John Conroy, who had submitted the application for the grant, was pleased to outline to Rob the impact that the donation has made.
Bury AC Chair, Mark Granby, said:
“We’re a community-based competitive athletics club, offering skill-based coaching, fitness training and athletic competitions from people aged 7 – 65+ years old. Over and above this we also work with a number of local charities and schools. Like most community organisations, we rely on our brilliant volunteers, and this funding will benefit them by covering the cost of attending the mandatory coaching courses as well as the purchase much needed athletic equipment. We’re extremely grateful for the help from the Stagecoach Greater Manchester Fund and look forward to seeing our members benefit from it.”
Rob was really impressed with the friendly welcome he received at the club and the energy of the young athletes in particular.
