Seniors Newsletter – February 2019

Road Relays:  The 12 & 6 stage road relays take place in Birkenhead Park on Sunday 24th March.  If you haven’t already signalled your availability to Byron or Lizzi, please do so asap.  We are looking to field strong teams to repeat last year’s successes.  Further details cab be found here: Women’s 6 stage   Men’s 12 stage.

The Nationals then take place on Saturday 7th April in Birmingham, so again please keep free.

Seniors Grand Prix: Details of the competition can be found on the website here.   The next race is the Terry Nortley 10-miler on 24th February.  You can enter here. Online entries close at Noon on Monday, although there should also  be entries available on the day.  Standings will be updated following this race to also include points from the Red Rose XC series.

10,000m track race:  The club is planning to host a 10,000m track race on Weds 15th May.  The intent is that this will be a regular annual event. This will be EA licensed and properly officiated.  Please keep the date free if you wish to run.  Further details to follow.

Key Fixtures:  A list of all key fixtures is maintained on the club website and can viewed here at any time (you can also find it under the “Competitions” tab on the home page of the website, which is

Please take note of the dates as some do clash with popular races.  The Wilmslow half marathon is the same day as the road relays and the Great Manchester Run (10k / half marathon) clashes with the first Northern league fixture.  Please prioritise club fixtures if you can.

Development Plan and Fundraising:  The club has recently published a development plan outlining how we plan to develop the site to expand facilities and meet new EA regulations.  The plan will be used in grant applications etc to help raise the funds necessary to meet our objectives. While costs aren’t published within the plan, we need to raise several hundred thousand pounds to deliver everything, the most expensive single item being the replacement of the track itself.  You can read the plan here and it has also been published on our social media.  We would welcome the support of all members and parents in our fundraising efforts.  Also, if you or anyone you know has any ideas or contacts that would help, please get in touch with John Conroy at

Officiating:   Providing qualified officials at fixtures is a vital part of the club’s responsibility.  We are currently very short of officials and really need more volunteers to qualify.  England Athletics are launching a new project aimed at giving people first-hand experience officiating at one of their National Championship events throughout the year. This project is open to anyone who is interested in officiating, and would like to give it a try, shadowing one of their experienced officials at an EA championship event in a variety of disciplines and events.   Please consider having a go.  You can register your interest here.

Pilates:  John Conroy is running pilates sessions at the club at 2pm on Wednesday afternoons.  The cost is £5 per session, open to all, members and non-members.
